Free Parenting Newsletter Issued Monthly by Book Publisher Parenting Press
"News for Parents," available online at www.parentingpress/ezine.html or by e-mail subscription, is a free monthly newsletter that librarians can print out and post or compile in a notebook for their parenting/self help sections. Many of the activities can also be used for children's programs in libraries.
"Understanding Autism" is one of the lead stories in the August 2008 issue. Based on a new W.W. Norton book, "How to Talk to Parents about Autism," by Roy Q. Sanders, it describes typical symptoms for five types of autism.
The August issue also suggests how to organize support groups or orientation sessions for parents of children making school transitions (whether starting kindergarten OR college), describes how to make shadow puppets and s'mores, and discusses "the power of one" in the monthly feature on community service projects appropriate for children.
The September 2008 issue will feature National Grandparents Day Sept. 7, "Quick Costume Ideas" and "Make SATs Spell C-A-S-H," a school fund-raising tip.
