Acton Public Library Partners with ByWater Solutions for Koha Implementation

Los Angeles, CA – March 1, 2010 – Library Associates Companies (LAC), today announced their national certification as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council – West (WBEC - West), a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).

The Delaware Association of Environmental Education’s Child in the Wild conference will take place on Saturday, February 27th at the historic Blue Ball Barn. The conference is for both formal and non-formal educators, and will present tools and case studies on introducing environmental concepts into classroom education...a program entitled "No Child Left Inside".

BCR, LYRASIS and OCLC are proud to present a new workshop, Digital Preservation for Digital Collaboratives, designed to help digital collaboratives with existing digital collections develop and implement a long-term preservation option. 

The workshop, designed for multiple representatives from a collaborative, will provide the information and tools the collaborative needs to develop a long-term preservation plan that will work for its unique collections and organizations.

The Pacific Northwest Library Association, covering two provinces and four states in the Northwest, is one of the few cross-border library associations. We just celebrated our centennial in August 2009 in Missoula, Montana, with 200 attendees from our membership and affiliated associations in British Columbia, Alberta, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska.

Why are we so deeply attracted to vampires? According to EVOLVE: Vampire Stories of the New Undead editor Nancy Kilpatrick, that’s because the vampire was once human and retains vestiges of humanity.

"Vampires are always struggling," says Kilpatrick. "In some, that struggle is stronger, in others weaker, but the vampire is torn between wanting to love and be loved by us, and wanting to rip out our throats to get to our blood."

~ Psychological Literature, Audiovisual Media, Intervention Programs and Tests from Authors in German-Speaking Countries ~

IPSWICH, Mass. —February 18, 2010—EBSCO Publishing has added a new psychology resource from German-speaking countries. PSYNDEX: Literature and Audiovisual Media with PSYNDEX Tests™ (PSYNDEX), a comprehensive abstract database of psychological literature, audiovisual media, intervention programs, & tests from German-speaking countries is now available via EBSCOhost®, the most-used, premium electronic resource in libraries around the world.

PSYNDEX provides two segments searchable in both German and English. The first segment, PSYNDEX Literature and Audiovisual Media, contains more than 215,000 literature records dating back to 1977, over 2,000 descriptions of audiovisual media, and descriptions of intervention programs. The second segment, PSYNDEX Tests offers extensive descriptions of more than 5,800 tests in use in German-speaking countries with some tests dating back as early as 1945.

Subjects covered in the PSYNDEX include: Psychology, Medicine, Education, Sociology, Sport, Linguistics, Business Management and Criminology (relevant for psychology).

English-speaking researchers benefit from the 60,000 records in PSYNDEX that are offered either in English or with an English abstract. Each record also includes English title translations, descriptors, classification categories while the literature and audiovisual media records include key concepts.

PSYNDEX records are indexed with the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms published by the American Psychological Association. Users will also find that by accessing PSYNDEX via EBSCOhost it also includes a browsable and searchable thesaurus incorporating both the original English language terms and the German translations.

PSYNDEX supports SmartLinking to other subscribed EBSCOhost databases, which allows users to easily follow an article citation in one database to the full text of that same article in another database. With this feature, PSYNDEX customers can easily link over to their other EBSCO psychology databases.
