Delaware's Governor Jack Markell praised the work of public libraries and the state's Division of Libraries in serving as a linchpin to bring together agencies that normally do not work together in the Division of Libraries' innovative Community Resources Exchange program, in which social service agencies, non-profit organizations and libraries work together to maximize their resources and reach those in need.
PSYNDEX: Literature and Audiovisual Media with PSYNDEX Tests Now Available on EBSCOhost

IPSWICH, Mass. —February 18, 2010—EBSCO Publishing has added a new psychology resource from German-speaking countries. PSYNDEX: Literature and Audiovisual Media with PSYNDEX Tests™ (PSYNDEX), a comprehensive abstract database of psychological literature, audiovisual media, intervention programs, & tests from German-speaking countries is now available via EBSCOhost®, the most-used, premium electronic resource in libraries around the world.
PSYNDEX provides two segments searchable in both German and English. The first segment, PSYNDEX Literature and Audiovisual Media, contains more than 215,000 literature records dating back to 1977, over 2,000 descriptions of audiovisual media, and descriptions of intervention programs. The second segment, PSYNDEX Tests offers extensive descriptions of more than 5,800 tests in use in German-speaking countries with some tests dating back as early as 1945.
Subjects covered in the PSYNDEX include: Psychology, Medicine, Education, Sociology, Sport, Linguistics, Business Management and Criminology (relevant for psychology).
English-speaking researchers benefit from the 60,000 records in PSYNDEX that are offered either in English or with an English abstract. Each record also includes English title translations, descriptors, classification categories while the literature and audiovisual media records include key concepts.
PSYNDEX records are indexed with the Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms published by the American Psychological Association. Users will also find that by accessing PSYNDEX via EBSCOhost it also includes a browsable and searchable thesaurus incorporating both the original English language terms and the German translations.
PSYNDEX supports SmartLinking to other subscribed EBSCOhost databases, which allows users to easily follow an article citation in one database to the full text of that same article in another database. With this feature, PSYNDEX customers can easily link over to their other EBSCO psychology databases.

Indiana University Press Joins Current Scholarship Program
Indiana University Press, founded in 1950 and one of the leading
university presses in the country, and JSTOR, the preservation archive and
research platform that is part of the not-for-profit ITHAKA, announced an
agreement today to make leading journals from the Press available worldwide
as part of the Current Scholarship Program, a new collaborative initiative
announced on August 13, 2009.
By joining the Program, current and historical content from 28 Indiana
Sciyo introduces a new model of open access academic publishing
Authors publishing with Sciyo in 2010 will be the first in academic publishing to receive royalties based on the number of downloads of their publication. For every 10 downloads, 0.2 euro will be accredited to author’s account on an annual basis. The aim of the model is to reward high quality academic work, deemed most useful by the research community.
Contra Costa County Library wins Innovation grant to develop “Snap & Go”

Library has been awarded a $60,000 Bay Area Library and Information Systems
(BALIS) Innovation grant to create a mobile platform that will push new and
existing library content and services -- literally -- into the hands of
cell phone users. The “Snap & Go” project will allow Contra Costa
County residents with mobile phones and a library card to access library
materials, enhanced content, and manage their accounts without having to
visit a library building or gain access to a computer.
