Sanbornton Public Library Chooses Koha and LibLime

ATHENS, OH and SANBORNTON, NH--August 19, 2008-- LibLime, the leader in open-source solutions for libraries, and the Sanbornton Public Library in New Hampshire, announced today that the Library has selected a hosted Koha solution for their next integrated library system.

The Library's database of 18,000 items will be hosted off-site at one of LibLime's secure data centers. The library has also contracted with LibLime for data migration, support and customization services on their Koha system.

Thanks to funding provided by a generous Sanbornton-based couple, the Sanbornton Public Library will soon be making the leap into the digital era by migrating from the card catalog to an online Koha catalog that library patrons will be able to access from any Internet-enabled computer.

Sanbornton will become the first Koha-powered library in New Hampshire. "We're delighted to be joining the growing number of libraries making the switch to open-source software," says library director Cab Vinton. "The core principles of open source – free and equal access, collaboration and resource-sharing across boundaries – are perfectly aligned with those of librarianship."

Cab continues: "But more importantly, Koha and LibLime were the clear winners on the basis of sound business criteria. The package is undeniably cheaper than any comparable proprietary product. It offers features, reliability, and adaptability that traditional vendors will struggle to keep up with, especially as the product continues to evolve."

The library is planning to go live in October.

About Sanbornton Public Library

Sanbornton Public Library serves the 3,000 people of Sanbornton, a rural town situated in the heart of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. The library is housed in the Woodman Academy, an 1826 structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The library embodies the best of the traditional New England spirit -- rooted in its past, living in the present, and planning for its future.

About Koha

Since it was first put into production in early 2000, Koha has enabled new realities of open access, affordability, and free innovation for hundreds of libraries around the world. Koha has lived up to its name, which means ‘Gift’ in the Maori language of New Zealand. From the outset, many libraries understood the power of this gift. They downloaded it, they installed it, they changed it, and they contributed their solutions back to the library community.
